The Berchtesgadenerland National Park is one of the most spectacular places in Germany. The village of Schonau am Konigssee lies in the middle of the park between 2700m high mountains and crystal-clear mountain lakes. This natural park is the only alpine nature area recognized by UNESCO for its unique habitat. It has wildlife such as the ibex and eagle and plants such as the edelweiss. The steep Watzmann mountain-side is most impressive and offers excellent walking opportunities. It is covered in snow for a large part of the year.
